Our program offers concentrations in French, Spanish, and P-12 Teacher Certification. Our foreign language faculty have lived and studied in Europe, Africa, Canada, Mexico, and South America, as well as in the United States. Students are introduced to many cultures and points of view through literature, film, journalism, and the Internet. Drama students read and produce French and Spanish plays, and faculty and students publish essays and poetry in academic journals, magazines, and in our annual publication “Foreign Language Notes”. A state-of-the-art language resource center is an important part of our new facilities in Allgood Hall. Students and faculty benefit alike from small upper-division classes, which create a sense of close community and warm congeniality. Since the ability to communicate in more than one language has become a prized skill in the global marketplace, the foreign language major prepares students for the changing marketplace of the twenty-first century.
